Some of us are so old that we recall that some Americans worried when Hitler formed the Schutzstaffel (The SS) in 1925 as a small Praetorian Guard. Most Americans could not care less about the SS then.

But the group grew to more than a million men, and was feared by everyone in Germany – even by the regular army. By the time America entered World War II, the SS was Hitler’s personal elite paramilitary force that, without bothersome legal due process, eliminated (long, about 8 minutes, but worth the read….)

Does any of this scare the hell out of anyone besides me?
