Audacious Obama Statements

Published by admin under Obama

Yesterday the Pew Research Center released a new poll on the economic stimulus debate. Like every other poll taken so far, the Pew poll showed again that support for President Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan has fallen since it was first announced. While 92% of those polled viewed Obama as a good communicator, those Americans that were paying the most attention to the stimulus debate also were the most opposed to the plan. The more that Obama’s lofty rhetoric is tested against fact and common sense, the less support his policies have. Below are just the five most audacious sales pitches Obama employed to gin up support for his Trillion Dollar Debt Plan.

No Earmarks: What it does not contain, however, is a single pet project, not a single earmark, and it has been stripped of the projects members of both parties found most objectionable.” – This is a clever semantic ploy by Obama. While it is true that no individual Congressman stuffed a Bridge to Nowhere in the bill’s conference report, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. David Obey (D-WI) wrote the bill, they included billions of line-item spending elements to payoff leftist interest groups, including: $450 million for NASA “climate-research missions”, $600 million for NOAA “climate modeling”, $2 billion for a single power plant in Obama’s home state of Illinois, and on and on.

4 Million Jobs:My bottom line is to make sure that we are saving or creating 4 million jobs.” -Obama is not creating 4 million jobs. According to the Congressional Budget Office, under the most optimistic models Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan would create only 3.6 million jobs and could produce only 1.2 million jobs. And one in five of these jobs will be a government job.

Spending:Look, I would love not to have to spend money right now. This notion that somehow I came in here just ginned up to spend $800 billion, that wasn’t — that wasn’t how I envisioned my presidency beginning.” – Obama’s chief of staff exposed this lie when he said;” Never allow a crisis to go to waste…They are opportunities to do big things.” But the bill itself is all the proof you need to know that Obama and his leftist allies thoroughly love their chance to blow a trillion dollars. The Obama Trillion Dollar Debt Plan doubles the size of the Department of Education and creates 32 brand new government programs. Worse, it sneaks in a major down payment on Obama’s health care plan creating the bureaucracy and tracking systems necessary to force socialized medicine on the American people.

Free Lunches: Once the economy stabilizes and people are less fearful, then I do think that we’re going to have to start thinking about how do we operate more prudently, because there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” – Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan is founded on the belief that government’s can provide endless free lunches to the American people. Does Obama believe the trillions he wants to spend grows on trees? Nobel laureate Gary Becker writes: “There are no free lunches in spending, public or private. The increased federal debt caused by this stimulus package has to be paid for eventually by higher taxes on households and businesses. … The burden from higher taxes down the road has to be deducted both from any short-term stimulus provided by the spending program, and from its long-run effects on the economy.”

Japan:We saw this happen in Japan in the 1990s, where they did not act boldly and swiftly enough, and as a consequence they suffered what was called the “lost decade” where essentially for the entire ’90s they did not see any significant economic growth.” – This statement is audacity defined. Since 1992 Japan has spent $6.3 trillion in stimulus spending, racking up the largest public debt in the developed world — totaling 180 percent of its $5.5 trillion economy. And this massive borrow-and-spend splurge did nothing to help the economy. And Obama thinks this is evidence in support of his Trillion Dollar Debt Plan?

No wonder support for Obama’s economic stimulus plan is sinking like a rock.

legislating the wealthy out of freedom

Published by admin under Government

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Trillion Dollar Dept Plan

Published by admin under Government

There are two competing story lines developing on the Trillion Dollar Debt Plan. The first is that the bill passed by the House is basically a sound spending plan that only needs a few minor changes in the Senate before it can be passed and single-handedly save the entire U.S. economy from total collapse. So, National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers tells the USA Today, “We’re focused on the pie, not the crumbs. The president is prepared to compromise but our focus is on the fact that the American economy badly needs help.” President Barack Obama was also on message last night telling ABC News: “The overwhelming bulk of the package is sound. Most of the programs that have been criticized as part of this package amount to less than 1% of the overall package.” That is the official White House version of events. Then there is the truth.

The truth is that the vast majority Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan has nothing to do with stimulating the economy and everything to do with permanently redistributing spending and power away from the private sector and toward government. That is why the plan is costlier than the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined. That is why it is larger than the entire GDP of India. That is why the plan will send our debt-to-GDP levels to unprecedented heights. Remember, only 15% of the spending in this debt plan goes to infrastructure. So where does the rest of the money go? Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan doubles the size of the entire Education Department and according to the New York Times, expands government health care spending in a way that fundamentally “rewrit[es] the social contract with the poor in ways [the left] have long yearned to do.”

As conservative stalwart Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) writes in today’s Wall Street Journal: “As a nation, we got into this mess by spending and investing money that didn’t exist. We won’t get out of it by doing more of the same.” Coburn is not alone in this assessment. The Washington Post reports today that Senate Democratic leaders have conceded they do not have the votes to pass the stimulus bill as currently written. And it is not just because conservatives like Sen. Coburn object. Moderate Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are also not happy with the core of the Trillion Dollar Debt Plan. Nelson says he and Collins have identified “tens of billions” in cuts they will ask Obama to remove. But Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) had an even more honest assessment of the bill telling the Post that “many of the provisions were jammed into the legislation by members of the Appropriations Committee who were ‘trying to short-circuit the normal legislative process.’” Snowe concluded: “They should scrub it.”

There is an alternative. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) has an idea he calls The American Option. Instead of permanently expanding the size and power of Washington, DeMint’s idea would free American entrepreneurs from their stifling tax burdens and allow them to create millions of new private sector jobs. The American Option would create rapid growth in wages and business incomes by reducing business taxes from 35% to 25%; reducing the estate tax to 15%; keeping the tax rates on dividends and capital gains at 15%; reducing individual tax rates to three levels and permanently repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). According to a study by the Center for Data Analysis this policy would increase employment by a half million jobs in 2009 and by 1.3 million jobs in 2010, and create 4.8 million jobs between 2009 and 2012. By contrast, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Trillion Dollar Debt Plan will only create 1.2 million to 3.6 million jobs, one in five of which will be a government job.

Commenting on the rapidly shrinking support for the Trillion Dollar Debt Plan, Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) predicted that “100 decisions” will be “made between now and when we deliver the bill to the president’s desk.” Let’s hope our Senator’s choose freedom and small government over Washington control over the economy and trillion dollar deficits for years to come.

I want a divorce

Published by admin under Republicans

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.  I know, we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but, sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot, and will not ever agree on what is right, so let’s just end it on friendly terms.  We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O’Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.)

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s, and rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks, and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.  We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.  But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We’ll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.  You can give everyone health care, if you can find any practicing doctors.  We’ll continue to believe health care is a luxury and not a right. We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute Imagine, I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum By Ya, or We Are the World.

We’ll practice trickle-down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you we’ll keep our history, our name, and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete.

In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall.

A Trillion Dollar Bridge to Nowhere

Published by admin under Obama

The more the American people learn about President Barack Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan, the more they don’t like it. According to a Gallup Poll released today, 54% of Americans either want Congress to reject Obama’s debt plan entirely, or they want major changes to it. Only 37% support the plan in its current form. A full 78% of Americans are significantly concerned that the plan will not stimulate the economy fast enough and 53% of Americans believe the plan will not have an effect at all.

There is a reason even Democratic Senators are calling Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan the “so-called stimulus” bill. There is very little in the plan actually designed to stimulate the economy. Only $137 billion of the $884 billion in the bill is is devoted to infrastructure spending. That is just 15%. The rest of the bill is filled with short and long term efforts by the far left in Obama’s party to permanently redistribute spending and power away from the private sector and toward government.

The Pork

The real problem with Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan is the permanent new education and health care spending disingenuously passed off as “temporary stimulus.” But all of the non-stimulus line items in the bill make for a more vivid demonstration of what the left is trying to accomplish. The pork in this bill includes: $1 billion for Amtrak, $2 billion for child-care subsidies; $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts; $400 million for global warming research; $2.4 billion for clean coal; $650 million for even more digital TV conversion coupons; $600 million for new government cars; $7 billion for modernizing federal buildings; $150 million for the Smithsonian; $345 million for Agriculture Department computers; $870 million to combat the flu; $400 million to fight STDs; $3 billion for after school programs; $1 billion Community Oriented Policing Services; $1 billion to help states collect child support; $400 million for NASA to compile climate change research; $400 million for the Department of Commerce to fund habitat restoration projects at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and $400 million for the Social Security Administration to replace its computer system.

All of this spending may have merit on its own, but none of it belongs in an economic stimulus bill.

The Waste

Even the actual infrastructure spending in the bill is rife with leftist priorities that guarantee the money will be wasted instead of creating public goods capable of helping the economy grow. The Trillion Dollar Debt Plan includes $9 billion for expanding broadband to rural areas of the country. But a report last month by Pew shows one in three Americans not currently on the internet have no interest in going on line now regardless of the cost. As the New York Times reports, this makes the Debt Plan’s broadband effort “a $9 billion cyberbridge to nowhere.

Other popular infrastructure items like school construction are also destined to be wasted. The Milwaukee Public Schools would reap $88.6 million over two years for new construction under the debt plan even though the district has 15 vacant school buildings, a large surplus of property and no plans for new construction. And don’t forget the ‘Buy American’ provisions that big labor is pushing. Not only could they start a Great Depression style trade war, but as Dartmouth professor of economics Doug Irwin demonstrates, they will also add billions in unnecessary construction costs to otherwise cost-effective infrastructure projects.

The Cost

Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan is larger than the combined total cost of the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The borrowing Obama’s plan requires will shatter post-WW II records for deficit spending. It will more than double the previous debt to G.D.P ratio record set in the 1980s. If all families were asked to equally shoulder the burden of the $819 billion stimulus package, it would be like asking them to take on an amount of debt equivalent to what they spend on food, clothing, and health care or most of what they spend on shelter for an entire year. By even the most optimistic estimates debt-ratios of this size will drive interest rates up by 0.7 and 1.1 percentage points. Such increases in interest rates would significantly weaken the economy further and delay for many months any hope of significant recovery.

For What?
According to the Congressional Budget Office’s latest estimates, Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan will
only create 1.2 million to 3.6 million jobs, and most of the jobs would only replace those lost to the recession. It is not just conservatives that see fundamental problems with Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan. President Bill Clinton’s budget director, Alice Rivlin told the Senate there are two risks with including all of the left’s permanent spending priorities in what is supposed to be an economic stimulus bill: “One is that money will be wasted because the investment elements were not carefully crafted. The other is that it will be harder to return to fiscal discipline as the economy recovers if the longer run spending is not offset by reductions or new revenues.”

As we showed above, this bill is rife with “not carefully crafted” spending that will be wasted. And the leftist elements in control of Congress have no track record of reducing spending. By their own criteria, Obama’s Trillion Dollar Debt Plan is destined to fail. But if you don’t trust us, here is what John Maynard Keynes wrote in 1942:
Organized public works, at home and abroad, may be the right cure for a chronic tendency to a deficiency of effective demand. But they are not capable of sufficiently rapid organization (and above all cannot be reversed or undone at a later date), to be the most serviceable instrument for the prevention of the trade cycle.
